How it started.
The open verse
Invited to a studio session by friends Braniel and Austin, IamKarl filled an open verse space with four bars on the spot — and found out, for the first time, that he could rap.
The move to Lusaka
Relocating from Livingstone split him from Braniel — the friend and creative brother who'd introduced him to music. For a while, he lost hope of continuing.
Meeting JTL
A university classmate at NIPA invited him to a studio session mid-semester. Encouraged to jump on the mic, IamKarl wrote and laid another verse on the spot — reigniting the passion he thought he'd lost.
"Fine Girl" is born
Now roommates, JTL played a beat meant for a collaboration with fellow artist Steezy INT. IamKarl freestyled over it — second attempt landed the chorus. Steezy INT gave his blessing, and the track was recorded in a simple room studio.
Traction in NIPA"Type Yanga" drops
IamKarl officially launches his career with his debut single, produced by Oddies Beats — the start of a long-term vision built on clean, relatable music with real impact.
